Collected Plays
James K Baxter
Edited by Howard McNaughton

Hardcover with jacket, 336 pages, 1st edition published by Oxford University Press, very good in very good jacket.

James K Baxter (1926-1972) is widely regarded as being one of the greatest poets New Zealand has produced, but it is not generally known that he was also an accomplished playwright who exerted a major influence on New Zealand theatre in the nineteen sixties. Baxter’s play writing was sporadic, yet he wrote more than twenty plays for the stage and radio, preferring to write another play rather than revise one after it had been produced.
This volume brings together for the first time all of the published plays with the best of the unpublished work. Production histories are included, and Baxter’s own introductions and programme notes are included in an appendix.
